Start/Finish during daylight hours only! Snow/ice cancels event. Olympic Valley, formally known as Squaw Valley, was the site for the 1960 Winter Olympics. This walk will take you through the world-renown Olympic venue near Lake Tahoe. From the starting point, walk through the Village area, then on to view the historic Squaw Valley Chapel, one of 3 buildings remaining from the Olympics. Thereafter, you will walk along the valley floor, (6200′ elevation) mostly on paved bike/walking paths that include views of the golf course

(approx. 8 mi.) Turn right onto Olympic Valley Rd. for 2.1 mi. Then turn left onto Village East Rd. Destination is on your right.

Event information

Event is at ~6200 ft. elevation. The Walk will be on bike paths, campground and dirt trails throughout Tahoma, and Sugar Pine Point State Park. Walkers will enjoy a bit of history as part of the trail is where the Biathlon and Cross-Country Ski events took place during the 1960 Winter Olympics. The paved 6K walk route is okay for strollers and wheelchairs, but not recommended for the 11K. Pets on leash with cleanup are only allowed on the 6k route. These Tahoma routes are NEW for 2018. Tahoe House Bakery & Gourmet; Hours: 6am–3pm daily. May close earlier in off season. Snow/ice will cancel this event.

Go about 0.2 mi. to Tahoe House Bakery & Gourmet on right. From Hwy #50 in South Lake Tahoe, take Hwy #89 N to Tahoe City, 26.4 mi. to Tahoe House Bakery & Gourmet on left. After registering, you will drive about 8.6 miles S on Hwy #89 to Tahoma (see walk instructions).

Walk through Tahoe City on sidewalks and paved bike trails to the charming suburb of Lake Forest. Along the way you will go a short distance on dirt trails, see beautiful views of Lake Tahoe, the Coast Guard Station, a small state park (pets leashed), and out on the pier. Visit picnic areas and pass lakefront homes.

10001 Soaring Wy. Truckee, CA 96161 Walk-box is located upstairs in Loft.From Hwy. #80 take exit 188B for CA-89/267 S toward Sierraville/Lake Tahoe. Turn right onto CA- 267 S for 1.4 mi. Turn Left onto Soaring Wy. At traffic circle, take the first exit and stay on Soaring Wy. Exit the traffic circle onto Soaring Wy. Turn Right into Raley’s parking lot. After registering, there will be a short drive to the starting point. (See driving directions in walk instructions.)

Event information

Daily, 7 am to dusk. Restrooms available across from hotel at Arco/AmPm and along route. Pets ok with cleanup but not allowed on Capitol grounds. The Neighborhoods route visits the capitol complex and the historic district with many homes on the National Historic Register. Then you’ll walk thru a post WWII neighborhood and an upscale golf community with the option of including a commercial area. You’ll also pass the Nevada State Museum, a casino and several eateries in the downtown area.

917 North Carson St, Carson City, NV 89701-1200. 775-882-7744. From I-80 take I-580 exit in Reno south for 27 miles to Carson City. Take exit 43/ N. Carson St/Hwy 395 bus. Start is on the Left corner of Carson St and E. Ann. Or take Hwy 50 to Carson City from Sacramento area, turn left on Hwy 395 (Carson St). From this direction, the start point is approx 8-9 blocks past the Capital on the Right. OK to stay parked at Hotel.

This route goes north to the ever expanding UNR campus. Founded in 1874, the oldest buildings surround the expansive tree-lined quad. You’ll also pass Manzanita Lake, the Honor Court, School of Journalism, Crowley Student Union and Lawlor Event Center. The other highlight is Rancho San Rafael, largest park in the county. The former ranch now features an arboretum, labyrinth garden, pond, dog park, picnic pavilions and museum. In September it hosts the largest free hot air balloon rally in the country. The route also includes downtown Reno and the popular River Walk along the Truckee.
