Event information                                                                                                                            Start/Finish during daylight hours only! This walk will take you through world-renown Squaw Valley near Lake Tahoe. Squaw Valley, also known as Olympic Valley, was the site for the 1960 Winter Olympics. This walk is one of a kind with 360 degree views of mountains (and some volcanoes). From the starting point, walk through the Village area, then on to view the historic Squaw Valley Chapel, one of 3 buildings remaining from the Olympics. Thereafter, you will walk along the valley floor, (6200′ elevation) mostly on paved bike/walking paths that include views of the golf course, the hotel across the meadow named the Resort At Squaw Creek, and many mountain homes. 10k walkers will view the “Tower of Nations” used in 1960, displaying the replica of the eternal Olympic flame. Snow/ice will cancel this event.

Tahoma – Squaw Valley

Event information

Event is at ~6200 ft. elevation. The Walk will be on bike paths, campground and dirt trails throughout Tahoma, and Sugar Pine Point State Park. Walkers will enjoy a bit of history as part of the trail is where the Biathlon and Cross-Country Ski events took place during the 1960 Winter Olympics. The paved 6K walk route is okay for strollers and wheelchairs, but not recommended for the 11K. Pets on leash with cleanup are only allowed on the 6k route. These Tahoma routes are NEW for 2018. Tahoe House Bakery & Gourmet; Hours: 6am–3pm daily. May close earlier in off season. Snow/ice will cancel this event.

Lake Blvd., Tahoe City, CA 96145 530-583-1377. Eastbound I-80 from Sacramento or Westbound I-80 from Reno, exit #185 Hwy #89/Lake Tahoe at Truckee to Tahoe City. Upon entering the first round-about in Tahoe City, turn right to reach Hwy #89-S toward Emerald Bay. At the next round-about turn right onto #89 S toward Emerald Bay. Go about 0.2 mi. to Tahoe House Bakery & Gourmet on right. From Hwy #50 in South Lake Tahoe, take Hwy #89 N to Tahoe City, 26.4 mi. to Tahoe House Bakery & Gourmet on left. After registering, you will drive about 8.6 miles S on Hwy #89 to Tahoma (see walk instructions).

Lake views, Coast Guard Station, small State Park- Pets leashed or carried. Picnic areas. 11k return picks up new Tahoe Lakeside Trail and historic Commons Beach area. Cross the Truckee River Dam.

Daily, 7 am to dusk. Restrooms available across from hotel at Arco/AmPm and along route. Pets ok with cleanup but not allowed on Capitol grounds. The Neighborhoods route visits the capitol complex and the historic district with many homes on the National Historic Register. Then you’ll walk thru a post WWII neighborhood and an upscale golf community with the option of including a commercial area. You’ll also pass the Nevada State Museum, a casino and several eateries in the downtown area.

Start is on the Left corner of Carson St and E. Ann. Or take Hwy 50 to Carson City from Sacramento area, turn left on Hwy 395 (Carson St). From this direction, the start point is approx 8-9 blocks past the Capital on the Right. OK to stay parked at Hotel.
